Stockton
Collegiate International Schools Board of Directors Charter By-Laws
Scott
Takechi, Board President,
was born in Stockton and attended Stockton schools through high
school. He graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration
with
a concentration in Accounting from California State University,
Sacramento. He has held various management positions in
private
and non-profit companies that range from manufacturing to child
development issues. Scott and his spouse, Yvonne have two
children who currently attend Franklin High School's MYP and DP
programs.
Debi
Estrada, Board Secretary,
came from the River Delta area to attend the University of the Pacific
in 1975. She graduated with a B.S. Degree in Voice
Performance
from the Conservatory. Debi worked for over 12 years with
American Savings, leaving the workforce as an AVP to become a stay at
home mom after her second child was born. A 25-year member of
the
Latin American Club, Inc. Scholarship Program and a member of the UOP
Latino Alumni, Debi and her husband David have two children currently
in the I.B. Program.
Scott
Luhn is a native of Washington State and graduated cum laude in 1993 with a
B.A. in Social Science from California State University, Stanislaus.
He completed an M.A. in Education Administration in 2003.
Scott primarily taught American Government, Economics, and US
History at Stagg and Edison High Schools in Stockton Unified School
District. He was a department chair and Assistant Principal
at
Stagg High School, before becoming Principal of Franklin High School in
2004. Scott and his wife Marlene, an elementary teacher in
SUSD,
have three sons all of whom attended SUSD schools.
Lisa Lee
graduated from The Ohio State University in 1979 with a B.A. in
English. She earned a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential
with
Supplemental Authorizations in English and Social Science from
California State University, Stanislaus. Lisa has taught
first through
seventh grade in SUSD, including GATE students in a district magnet
program. Lisa and her husband Bob, a native Stocktonian, have
two
children who attended SUSD schools from kindergarten through the IB
program at Franklin.
Lisa Nicholson
has taught every level of school K - Adults for over 27 years, both
overseas and in North America. She received her degree from
the
University of California, Berkeley.
For the past fifteen years she has been involved with both
the
International Baccalaureate Middle Years (MYP) and Diploma (DP)
programs. Her expertise ranges from MYP classroom and
coordination experiences at both middle and high schools, DP
coordination, the past MYP representative for the IB Board in
California (CAWS), the current MYP member on the International
Baccalaureate America’s Middle Years Schools Quality Assurance
Committee, current IBA workshop leader, site and evaluation visitor,
application preparation, and much more. Her most recent opportunity
with IBA has been in the facilitation of the global online training
modules.
Kids from every walk of life are Lisa’s passion.
She
believes that every student can learn and has the right to be educated
with the very best teaching practices available no matter where they
live. She is firmly committed to the philosophy and
methodology
of the International Baccalaureate Programs.
Nidya
Norma Fidler
is a native of Mexico and graduated from the University of the Pacific
in 1977 with a B.A. in International Studies with an emphasis in the
areas of English and Spanish. She holds a Life Single Subject
Credential in English, Spanish and a Bilingual Bicultural Certificate
of Competence. She taught English for one year at
San
Benito Joint Union High School District, was an integral part of the
formation and implementation of the year-round Bilingual Program at
French Camp from 1978-80, worked at Stagg High School as an ESL teacher
under the supervision of Merced County Office of Education and has
worked for Stockton Unified at Franklin High since l985. Her
roles have been many, including: Mentor Teacher, Teacher Trainer,
E.S.L. Teacher, Spanish Teacher, BTSA Support Provider, and Department
Chair for World Language. She has been teaching in the
International Baccalaureate Program since it began in the early
l990’s. Norma and her husband Dan have 3 children.
Chief Financial OfficerMimi Nguyen, a Stockton native, grew up attending
schools within Stockton
Unified before moving with her family into Lodi Unified School
District, where she graduated from Bear Creek High School in May
2003. Throughout high school, she was a participant in Youth
Council of Governments and Youth and Education Action Team Leadership
Academy; she also served on the 2002-2003 Youth Advisory Commission
which was responsible for the planning, designing, and funding of the
Gary and Janice Podesto IMPACT Teen Center. Mimi is currently
the
Director of Economic Development for the Downtown Stockton
Alliance. Prior to her work at the Alliance, Mimi was an
intern
in the City of Stockton’s Office of Economic Development and has also
been employed in the City’s Parks and Recreation Department, the
Stockton Asparagus Festival Office, and the Law Offices of Craig Lee
Corren. Mimi holds a B.S. in Mathematics from UC Davis and an
MBA
in Finance from UC Berkeley and is the 2009 recipient of the Athena
Young Professional Leadership Award.
Dr. Benjamin Morrison
is a Family Practice Physician in Stockton and is committed to
improving and serving our community. He grew up in the East
Bay,
and graduated from U.C. San Diego with a B.S. in Biochemistry/ Cell
Biology, and a minor in Health Care/ Social Issues. He then
went
on to get his M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia, and completed
his residency in Family Medicine at the Stanislaus Family Practice
Residency Program in Modesto. It was there that he met his
wife
Susan. Desiring to continue their work in underserved
medicine,
in 2003 Ben and Susan took Attending Physician positions with Community
Medical Centers in Stockton, where they have chosen to make their home
and raise their children. Since arriving in Stockton, Ben has
continued his work in providing healthcare to the homeless and
uninsured/underinsured in our area, in addition to working with the San
Joaquin General Hospital Family Practice Residency Program.
Judge William Murray
earned his B.S. in Political Science and Economics from Frostburg State
University in Maryland and his JD. from George Washington University in
Washington, DC. He was appointed to the San Joaquin
Superior Court in 1995 after ten years of service in the District
Attorney’s Office. He is the immediate past presiding judge of
the Superior Court and currently handles criminal matters and the Jury
Service and Education Program. Judge Murray is widely
recognized for his involvement in the innovative and award winning
Court-Community Leadership & Liaison program and has been widely
honored by many legal and civic organizations in Stockton and San
Joaquin County. As the son of educators, Judge Murray believes
strongly in the value of education. He is currently involved in
the court’s youth outreach programs and speaks to youth at local
schools. He is a past board member of the Stockton Boys and Girls
Clubs and Humphreys College.
Other
Founding Members
Dan Thiele
retired in 2005 after teaching 38 years for Stockton Unified School
District. He earned a B.A. in History from UOP and an M.A. in
Social
Sciences from Stanford University. He is currently a
consultant for
International Baccalaureate Americas (IBA). He assists
Diploma Program
(DP) applicant schools to complete the required authorization process
and serves as an IBA authorization site visitor and IBA examination
auditor. Dan was one of the founding teachers of the Franklin
High
School (Stockton) IB Diploma Program, teaching History and Theory of
Knowledge, and for the final seven years of his teaching career was the
DP Coordinator. He has also served on the executive board of
the
California Association of World Schools (formerly California IBO).
Erin Thiele
was born in Stockton and attended SUSD schools from Kindergarten
through 12th grade. She graduated from Stanford University in 1978 with
a B.A. in English and French and earned an M.A. in Special Education
and four teaching credentials (Multiple Subject, Single Subject in
English, Learning Handicapped and Severely Handicapped) from University
of the Pacific. Erin began teaching for Stockton Unified in
1983 and
has taught students from infancy to high school and from severely
handicapped to gifted. For the past several years, she has
served as
coordinator for Franklin's International Baccalaureate program, first
for the Diploma Program and then for the Middle Years Program.
Erin
and her husband have six sons, all of whom attended SUSD schools,
including the IB program at Franklin. She is passionate about
providing a program of outstanding quality for the many capable
students of Stockton Unified.
Ty
Pafford
is a central valley native and graduated from California State
University Fresno with a B.A. in English. Ty taught English for eight
years in Los Banos, CA and just completed his ninth year at Franklin
High School of SUSD for an aggregate of 17 years. He taught a total
of eight years in the Franklin International Baccalaureate Program with
the first four being in English and the last four in Theory of
Knowledge. He served as Diploma Program co-coordinator and
coordinator for four years. Ty and his wife Mary Ann, an elementary
teacher in SUSD,
have one daughter in pre-school and live in the Stockton Unified School
District.
Mary
Ann Pafford
is a central valley native and graduated from California State
University, Fresno with a B.S. in Recreation Administration.
She
holds a multi-subject credential in Elementary Education, retains a
Reading Specialist Credential and will complete her Masters Degree in
Education with a focus in Elementary Reading and Literacy in 2009.
She has taught at the K-6 level for 13 years and has also
worked
as a trained Reading Recovery teacher. She currently
resides in and is
employed by
Stockton Unified. She additionally works for San Joaquin A+
coordinating their 6th Grade Reading Ambassador program.
